Facts and figures of 498A IPC Till 2014

Check the data below and see the pain of a man and his family trapped in false 498a IPC case.

How much do you think a 498a case takes to finish? 5 years maximum..Right? But you are wrong data says something different. It takes 3 years to pass the police stage and 10 years to pass out of court pendency, total 13 years on average.

And guess what results in maximum of them….it is “acquittal” as conviction rate is as low as 13% and it is going down every year and that too with “no punishment to false case filer women”.

But the pain of harassment and defamation while you get trapped in it and gets arrested is unimaginable. 60 thousand men on average every year prefer to suicide when they can’t bear this torture of police, court and endless extortion.

Sometimes it troubles you a lot and question arises in our mind that why we have such laws which are only a source of extortion and tool of settling scores. You check the data and draw your opinion yourself but I guess it will not be different from me if you analyze the data with an unbiased view.

**Data taken from NCRB site- https://data.gov.in/

See what we have got from this biased law-

·         Already having huge pendency we added new cases of about 122877.

·         Police don’t keep more than around 30% of these cases pending with them and charge sheet 92% of them every year approximately.

·         But Police arrests increased from 222091 to 225648 inspite of Arnesh judgement in 2013
specially came for illegal arrests going on in 498a IPC cases.

·         At the end of year pendency in court increased by around 22%.

·         Conviction rate went more down from 16 to 13.7%. Remember it came down from 21.2% in               2007 to this figure.

·         No of persons trapped increased by 4% at the end of year from 833454 to 867400.

·         44218 women were arrested in these cases in 2014.

·         125748 women are trapped in these cases at the end of 2014.

·         Pendency 30% at police level means 3 years and around 10% at court means 10 years, in total 13 years to finish present number of cases if rate of filing new cases don’t increase. But rate of increase in filling new cases was also around 3% means.
